Victoria Awuni, Esq. is a distinguished legal and strategic professional whose career has been defined by excellence, integrity, and transformative impact in the fields of mining, environmental law, and natural resource governance in Ghana. With over 18 years of experience in mining and environmental practice, Victoria is well placed to lead in areas including legal and regulatory compliance, policy development, and strategic governance. She has been serving as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission of Ghana since January 2025. In her role as Deputy CEO responsible for Policy Planning, Mineral Title, and Local Content, Victoria plays a central part in shaping Ghana’s mining agenda, driving policy reforms, and ensuring responsible investment in the sector. She leads critical initiatives in mineral rights administration, local content development, and regulatory compliance, while advising both the Chief Executive and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources on complex legal and strategic matters. Her leadership is instrumental in balancing economic growth with environmental stewardship, promoting transparency, and attracting ethical investment into Ghana’s extractive industries. Victoria has represented Ghana at renowned industry events such as the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada Conference (PDAC) and the Fastmarkets Bauxite & Alumina Conference in the United States, where she highlighted Ghana’s pivotal role within the global minerals value chain. She has also participated in several international conferences and workshops, including the Special Institute on the Law and Policy of Critical Minerals, where discussions centered on the legal, economic, and policy dimensions shaping the development, production, and distribution of critical minerals. In her capacity as a Board Member of the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC), she contributes to governance and strategy for Ghana’s aluminium industrialization agenda, advancing sustainable growth, value addition, and innovation across the sector. Her professional journey reflects a deep commitment to public service and corporate excellence. Prior to her current appointment, she served as Group Manager for Compliance at Engineers & Planners (E&P) Group, where she oversaw regulatory compliance operations across the group’s subsidiaries, including E&P, Dzata Cement, and MBG. Her earlier roles include Head of Legal and Company Secretary at Cardinal Namdini Mining Ltd, as well as nearly a decade in the administration and legal departments of the Environmental Protection Agency, where she actively participated in high-profile legal processes, including arbitration on behalf of the Ministry of Environment. Victoria was called to the Ghana Bar in October 2018, after obtaining a Qualifying Certificate in Law (QCL) from the Ghana School of Law. She holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) in Environmental and Energy Law from the University of Birmingham, UK, and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA Law). Her educational foundation is further strengthened by a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration from GIMPA and a Bachelor’s Degree in Management Studies from the University of Cape Coast. Victoria hails from Bongo in the Upper East Region of Ghana and is fluent in English, Gurune, Twi, and Hausa, which enables her to connect with diverse stakeholders, from local communities to international investors.
